You win some, you lose some. Was mowing the bee ya You win some, you lose some. Was mowing the bee yard at @georgiabushcraft today and my head bumped into this. I was busy watching for Armadillo burrows. Second clip shows I took too long getting back with equipment to put them in. #hardenhillhoney #oconeecountyga

Beekeeping isn’t just about working bees. If you Beekeeping isn’t just about working bees. If you’re like me and prefer to move your bees around on trailers you have to find time for trailer maintenance and preparation. Adding another three this year. I buy used trailers. Before going into service they get new wood, lights, 10 ply tires, wheel bearings, bearing buddies and the ramps are removed. I generally never have problems after that. #hardenhillhoney #localhoney #oconeecountyga

All the hives on the queen yard made it thru winte All the hives on the queen yard made it thru winter and are loaded with worker bee and drone brood.
There was only one hive on this stand during winter. The deep hive body on the left went thru winter as a single deep with a queen excluder on it and the three mediums that are now on the right hive were above the excluder and full of honey. I had forgotten to remove the queen excluder before winter.
When I inspected it for the first time this year there was a laying queen above and a laying queen below the queen excluder. Both locations had capped and open brood and standing eggs.
There is an entrance in the top medium super so most likely a swarm moved into the top mediums a couple or so weeks ago when we had an unusual warm spell.
I moved the mediums off to the right and added a deep box of comb and created a new hive. I added a medium box of comb to the original deep.
Hope I've got the queens separated. Won’t know for sure until I check again in a few days.
I checked on the bees in Helen GA over the weekend I checked on the bees in Helen GA over the weekend. They were not very happy about the continued cold. I was pretty sure I overhead a conversation about some kind of contract and a groundhog. Didn’t sound like it was a good deal for the groundhog. #hardenhillhoney
Sun’s 🌞 out, bees 🐝 out! One of my breeder Sun’s 🌞 out, bees 🐝 out!
One of my breeder queen hives. Worried this one might be packed with brood and preparing to swarm. I missed it somehow last fall during winter prep. It still has a queen excluder on the bottom deep and three supers of last season’s honey. Will correct that tomorrow by removing the excluder and two supers and adding a box of drawn wax above the deep. #hardenhillhoney

I also got the chance to practice my tree felling skills taking down the “last one standing”. Thanks everyone!

Luckily the one on the end had deeper roots or I would have had two crushed trucks. Plenty of cleanup work ahead of me today.

My front porch stand is stocked with different var My front porch stand is stocked with different varieties of Local Oconee County honey along with Oconee County Pollen. I have a limited supply of the highest quality and best tasting Tupelo Honey you will buy from any Tupelo producer this season. The Sourwood flow was bad in NE GA this season. The Sumac over bloomed it. I let my bees in Helen make honey from April till August and left the Sourwood mixed in. It produced some unique flavored GA Mountain Wildflower unlike any I have tasted.
I do have some Sourwood that I produced in Murphy NC but I haven’t extracted it yet. It will be available before Christmas if the bees don’t eat it all first.
I have some South GA Wildflower that I will have bottled and available in the next couple of weeks.
If you know where the porch stand is you know. If you need to know PM me.

This time of the year the conditions in a new yard This time of the year the conditions in a new yard can change quickly. Checked this yard yesterday morning and all hives were good, even the one being robbed. Came by just now to pick up some equipment and discover this. There are 50 or so big hives in this yard so when robbing breaks out the target doesn’t have a chance, no matter how large the population is or how small the entrance is.
The hives on this trailer are full of Sourwood honey from NC. Will have to pull it all tomorrow for sure. At least they are having a high priced sweet treat.
